Williams - shown here with Assistant Treasury Secretary Wayne Abernathy - defended the agency's recent preemptions of state anti-predatory lending laws at America's Community Bankers Government Affairs Conference last week. She noted that when the Office of Thrift Supervision wrote nearly identical regulations 10 years ago, there was no outcry. NCUA has since followed in OCC's footsteps preempting the state laws.
