St. Louis Postal Credit Union, Mo., has raised $1,686 and collected a variety of new items for the children at Faith House, the credit union's 2003 adopted charity. The Faith House is the first children's home in the State of Missouri to care for children of substance abusing parents. The ages range from birth to 12. Steel Works Community Federal Credit Union, Weirton, W. Va., has raised $1,000 by participating in the American Heart Association Heart Walk. Funds raised will be used to further research efforts and promote awareness campaigns. Credit Union of Massachusetts Kids at Heart, has donated $300,000 to the Children's Hospital of Boston. The CUMKH program is comprised of 42 New England credit unions. Funds raised will be used to build a new patient family lounge, play area and nourishment center. Matadors Community Credit Union, Northridge, Calif., has exclusively sponsored the Spring 2003 Northridge girls ASA softball team "Venom". San Francisco Federal Credit Union, has sponsored a children's book drive in conjunction with The Bridge of Books Foundation. In just two weeks the credit union collected 1,258 books. In an effort to expose children to different worlds the Bridge of Books Foundation provides books to at-risk children in homeless shelters, foster care and after-school programs. Allegacy Federal Credit Union, Winston-Salem, N.C., has donated $60,000 to benefit Cancer Services, Inc., which is a local cancer support organization. Funds were raised through the "Don't Wait" Benefit Golf Tournament. Over the past five years the credit union has donated more than $140,000 to support breast and ovarian cancer awareness. Pacific Service Credit Union, Walnut Creek, Calif., has donated $4,800 to Foster A Dream, Inc., of Benicia. The funds will be used to provide three Playhouse of Dreams structures to emergency crisis centers in Contra Costa, Napa and Marin counties. The emergency crisis centers shelter children removed from at-risk circumstances. These children can spend up to 23-hours at an emergency crisis center before being placed in foster care.
