SEATTLE - Robert Harvey, president and CEO of Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union has been named Executive of the Year by the Credit Union Executives Society. CUES recognized Harvey at its CEO Network meeting in Naples, Fla. on Nov. 2. "Bob Harvey is an outstanding executive and he richly deserves this recognition," said CUES President/CEO Fred Johnson. "It's people like Bob who are transforming the credit union industry." Since Harvey took the helm at SMCU in 1992, assets grew from $125 million to more than $380 million, membership increased by 10,000 to its current 36,000 and 125 select employee groups have been added. He also serves on the Washington Credit Union League's Board, is vice chair of its state governmental affairs committee, is a director of WesCorp, a board member of the African-American Credit Union Coalition and member of the Filene Research Institute's Council. In September, Harvey was named Credit Union Professional of the Year by the Washington Credit Union League. Recipients of the CUES award must show "exceptional leadership skills, be committed to professional development, contribute successfully to their credit union, play an active role in CUES and its Councils, and actively participate in civic and community affairs."
