CP Federal Credit Union, Jackson, Mich., has been presented the CUNA 2003 National Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award. During the 2002-03 school year, CP Federal Credit Union's youth representatives conducted some 821 classroom presentations on personal finance in Jackson County-reaching a combined student population of 26,664, more than double the number of students they reached in the 2001-02 school year. In addition to teaching children about smart money management in the classroom, the credit union also administers 31 student-run credit unions, which are staffed by some 320 student volunteers. Michigan Credit Union League, Northville Township, has awarded the Michigan 2003 Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action to Financial Health CU and Michigan State University FCU. The Louise Herring Award honors credit unions for their practical applications of the "People Helping People" philosophy. Both credit unions employ education as a means to better the lives of their members.
