CULAC Continues to Dole Out Funds

WASHINGTON-CUNA's political arm, the Credit Union Legislative Action Council, continued on its roll of handing out money to political chums throughout June. According to data from the Federal Election Commission, CULAC took in $123,174.68 during the month of June and made $93,931.37 in contributions to political candidates. Thus far in 2003, CULAC has made $728,674.03 in political contributions. High takers in June included Congressman Mike Pence (R-Ind.), who is on the Judiciary, International Relations, and Agriculture Committees and Bill Shuster (R-Pa.), a member of the Small Business and Transportation & Infrastructure Committees, at $5,000 each. CULAC also contributed $4,000 to the campaign of House Financial Services Committee member Jim Matheson (D-Utah) and freshman Congressman Bob Beauprez, who is on the Small Business Committee and others. Another $3,000 went to Senator Lisa Murkowski's (R-Alaska) election campaign; she was appointed by her father, Governor Frank Murkowski (R), in 2002 to serve in the Senate seat he vacated to become governor.
