BOSTON - Credit unions need to develop personnel manuals more thoroughly and then pay more attention to them, a lawyer who defends businesses against employee lawsuits told NAFCU attendees. "I can't tell you how many times I have had a client call to tell me an employee has been doing something they should not be doing, and the credit union hasn't looked at the manual," said Edward Isler, a partner at the law firm of Ray and Isler, located in Vienna, Virginia. Isler's firm specializes in labor and management issues. Isler told the audience that credit unions need to both have policy manuals that cover different types of employee and managerial behavior and then to stick by them when they have them. "The only thing that is worse than not having a policy manual is having one and not being consistent in using it," Isler said.
