SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Security Service FCU is rewarding its 460,000 members for using their checking accounts. The $2.5-billion SSFCU through its Member Checking Rewards account, which the credit union said is the first of its kind of any financial institution in the San Antonio market to offer, allows members to accumulate points for purchases made with the Checking Rewards debit card. The points can then be redeemed for merchandise, travel packages or gift certificates from popular companies such as Best Buy, Chili's and Target. Airline rewards are also available on any airline with no blackout dates and no ticket redemption fees. SSFCU is offering Member Checking Rewards for a $1.50 monthly fee. The credit union has introduced a Member Credit Rewards card as well. Members earn points for purchases using the card, and like the Member Checking Rewards account, these points can be redeemed for gift certificates, travel packages, and merchandise. The annual fee for the card is $49, however members who sign up for the card before Dec. 31, 2002 get the first year free.
