ARLINGTON, Va.-As part of its recent Web site update, NAFCU is enabled to provide a form letter for its members to edit and e-mail to lawmakers in support of bankruptcy reform. The trade association is also able to track somewhat how many of its members take advantage of the new offering, though the numbers cannot be completely accurate because some may use it, or print it out, or simply review it, NAFCU Director of Legislative and Political Affairs Brad Thaler explained. NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker sent a letter to all its members, asking that they put their two cents in on the bankruptcy conference report. "The bill was very close to final House action on the eve of the August recess, but in the final hours before adjournment key Republicans raised concerns over the agreement reached by [Senator Chuck] Schumer [(D-N.Y.)] and [Representative Henry] Hyde (R-Ill.)," the letter read. "Congress is returning to work this week and has a jam-packed legislative agenda. There is very limited time to pass the bankruptcy reform legislation as Congress is currently scheduled to adjourn early in October." Becker asked for grassroots assistance to support NAFCU's lobbying efforts inside the beltway. The Web address for the form letter, or to compose a unique one is http://www.capwiz.com/nafcu/issues/ bills/?bill=173551.
