Jax Navy to become VyStar Credit Union

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jax Navy Credit Union is changing its name to VyStar Credit Union, effective April 29, 2002. On the heels of the $2.2 billion credit union converting from a federal to state charter, the new name change will coincide with its 50th Anniversary. "We have great respect for our original core groups from NAS Jacksonville and want our military and civil service families to know they will always be recognized as the foundation on which this credit union was built," said Jax Navy CU President/CEO Terry R. West. "The new name better represents who we are, and who we strive to be." According to West, the new VyStar identity represents the credit union's vision for the future-a strong dynamic, leading credit union with outstanding quality and member service. The new name comes from "Vy" as part of the word "vying" meaning "competing or contending" combined with "star" meaning "a bright object" or "to do and outstanding job or perform excellently". The current compass and navy color will remain in the new logo with the "Building on the Jax Navy tradition" to serve as a reminder of its military and civil service heritage.
