CUNA, ACCU support Matz, Johnson

WASHINGTON - The Association of Corporate Credit Unions and CUNA wrote to Senator Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) supporting the nominations of JoAnn Johnson and Deborah Matz to the NCUA Board. Confirmation hearings are scheduled for March 14. "ACCU's leadership recently met with each of these nominees. During our meetings, it was readily evident that Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Matz listen well, grasp issues quickly and have the ability to balance safety and soundness concerns with regulatory flexibility considerations," stated ACCU Executive Director Gigi Hyland. "There will always exist some tension between regulator and regulated. However, we are confident in both Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Matz's ability to hear all sides of an issue and chart a course to an equitable solution. That is why we fully support their nominations to the NCUA Board," stated Hyland. The ACCU has a lot at stake this year with NCUA's revision of the corporate reg, Part 704, underway. In his letter, CUNA President Dan Mica said it's the "unanimous opinion" of CUNA leadership, the leagues, staff, and CU officials from around the country that Matz and Johnson have the credentials to serve on NCUA Board.
