SEATTLE - Mammoth Aerospace firm Boeing said today that it plans to move its corporate headquarters out of Seattle. Boeing cited Chicago, Denver, and Dallas-Fort Worth as possible target cities for its new headquarters. Worldwide Boeing employs 200,000 people, including 78,000 in the Pugent Sound area in Washington. The headquarters staff only numbers 1,000 and Boeing said there will be some cuts in that staff, with the new headquarters expected to employ only about 500. Gary Oakland, president/CEO of the $3.5 billion Boeing Employees CU, said given the small number of employees the move will affect, the relocation doesn't mean much to BECU from an operational standpoint. "No impact really other than a philosophical one of what it's going to do in a sense of the Boeing family. It doesn't appear that it will impact us," said Oakland.
