HARRISBURG, Pa. -Pennsylvania Credit Union League Communication Specialist Donald Dodson is taking the "people helping people" message abroad. Trading in his suit and tie for camouflage fatigues and a flak vest, Dodson, as part of the current Peacekeeping mission, will be reporting on the U.S. troops stationed in Kosovo for the next six to eight months. A military journalist with the 326th MPAD in Reading, Dodson is proud to fulfill his role with the service although it will separate him from his newlywed wife, family and friends. "I signed up 16 years ago to serve my country whenever they need me. That time has come. And I will gladly serve," said Dodson. In addition to his duties as a journalist, he may also be assigned to escort civilian media and press and assist with the U.S. forces bi-weekly newspaper, the Falcon Flier. According to Dodson, he will serve as the "Credit Union War Correspondent" and write back on life in Kosovo. "I'll find out what credit unions in Kosovo are like," said Dodson. And if there aren't any, I'll try to spread the word about the movement, maybe someone will start one." As a League communications specialist, Dodson reports on the latest credit union trends regarding operation, youth involvement and consumer issues. The Pennsylvania Credit Union League provides legislative, promotional, educational and operational support for 800 credit unions. These credit unions have assets in excess of $15 billion and serve more than three million members. -mbourjolly@cutimes.com
