Oahu Educational Employees FCU changes name to HawaiiUSA FCU

HONOLULU - Oahu Educational Employees FCU has changed its name to HawaiiUSA FCU. Ron Ogata, president/CEO of HawaiiUSA FCU, said the name change was made to better reflect the CU's current membership. "We have 55,000 members and only about 16,000 come from the education sector. We have over 500 SEGs. Education is just one part of our membership now, " said Ogata. As for the "USA" part of the name, Ogata said that was important because the CU has members in almost all 50 states. "We have a lot of members still doing business with us even though they've moved from Hawaii." The $365 million FCU is the largest CU in Hawaii based on number of members, and the second largest CU based on assets. It is the third name change since the credit union was founded in 1936. It was originally chartered as Oahu Teachers No. 3. In 1971 it changed its name to Oahu Educational Employees FCU. The credit union is also scheduled to launch a financial planning and insurance CUSO later this year. The CUSO will offer money management solutions, investment and long-term care planning, retirement, mutual funds, stocks, bonds, and other products and services. Ogata said the credit union is also planning to add two more branches this year to complement its existing six branches.
